Donegal SHC: Campbell steers Burt to title

Niall Campbell bagged 2-8 as Burt regained the Donegal SHC title following an impressive victory over Setanta at Letterkenny.

The county star along with fellow county men Joe Boyle and Ciaran Dowds was in outstanding form as Burt recovered from a shaky start to capture their 32nd championship crown. A Danny Cullen goal after 20 minutes had Setanta 1-5 to 0-2 ahead, but Campbell replied with a goal to leave the Inishowen men just a point down, 1-6 to 1-7, at the break.

Burt took complete control after the restart with some outstanding defending by both Boyle and Dowds with two further goals from Jonathan McGrath and Campbell helping them to a nine-point lead with 10 minutes remaining. Kevin Campbell scored a late consolation goal from a deflected free for Setanta before his namesake in the Burt ranks was sent off on a second yellow card.

It's not fully known actually how many titles Burt have as records from the 1940s and 1950s are blank with no one knowing who won in these times. More than likely Burt has a few more that their ancestors can only confirm but will be quite happy with another one in the bag for 2011.
