Daisi's GAA Skills Challenge receives superb response!

Young hopefuls from all over Donegal came together on Friday last to compete in the Grand Final of the inaugural Daisi's GAA Skills Challenge in Park Naomh Columba, Glenswilly.

A total of 30 GAA clubs were represented on the day as students of the game were tested on basic kicking, point taking, soloing and penalty taking. Indeed some of the youngsters could have taught Messers Ashley Cole and Young a thing of two in the art of executing the perfect spot-kick!

Since the beginning of May GAA coaches visited schools throughout the county, coaching and assessing the skills of over 3,000 students. Niall O'Donnell Sales Manager of Donegal Creameries said ‘the enthusiasm of both students and coaches for this initiative has been superb from the offset. Donegal Creameries are delighted to be involved in such a worthwhile project at grassroots level in the community'.

The overall winner of the event was Shane Doherty from Termon who delivered an almost flawless performance on each task. As an added treat Senior County Footballers Michael Murphy and Neil Gallagher were on hand to congratulate the winner and offer some words of wisdom to all those taking part.

Coaching Officer Mick Murphy concluded ‘we've had a brilliant response to this year's event and my hope is that it can get even bigger next year, with the help of our voluntary coaches and Donegal Creameries'.

Donegal GAA and Creameries would like to Glenswilly GAA Club for providing facilities on the evening, all the coaches who carried out the extensive trials and drills and all of the students who competed in Daisi's GAA Skills Challenge.
